Journeyman Crane Operator

Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Journeyman Crane Operator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a 55-ton 4-Post Gantry Shuttlelift mobile crane, ensuring precise handling and movement of large pipe sections (40-foot lengths of 48-inch, 25WT pipe) and other materials to support fabrication and construction operations.

Experience:

  • Journeyman Crane Operator: 3 years (required)
  • Gantry Shuttlelift mobile crane: 3 years (required)
  • Familiarity with handling large pipe sections: 3 years (required)

Duties

  • Display a commitment to Academy’s safety program, values, and culture.
  • Follow Academy’s operating standards and procedures.
  • Safely operate a 55-ton 4-Post Gantry Shuttlelift mobile crane to lift, move, and position materials as per project requirements.
  • Conduct daily pre- and post-operation inspections of the crane and associated rigging equipment, reporting maintenance needs.
  • Maintain inspection records and complete associated paperwork as required.
  • Collaborate with riggers and other personnel to ensure efficient and safe operations.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate repairs internally before escalating to third-party service providers.
  • Perform minor maintenance and adjustments to the crane as necessary.
  • Maintain good housekeeping in the work area.
  • Attend daily toolbox meetings.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.

Skills

  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of crane operation, with specific expertise in operating a 55-ton 4-Post Gantry Shuttlelift mobile crane.
  • Certification: Valid Journeyman Crane Operator certification; CSTS-09 certification and WHMIS are assets.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with handling large pipe sections (40-foot lengths of 48-inch, 25WT) and rigging techniques.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Positive, motivated, and hardworking with strong communication skills.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule.

Physical Requirements

The incumbent is required to have close visual acuity to operate equipment and perform inspections. Physical requirements include standing, sitting, and walking for extended periods, lifting heavy materials, and working in confined spaces.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $40.00-$50.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 – 50 per week
