Job Overview
The Welder is responsible for fusing metal components and other metal parts together for pipe fabrication while keeping up with the pace of production on the shop floor. Their job is to complete each weld to the specified standards using the appropriate materials and equipment, while following Academy’s recommended procedures.
Experience:
- Welding: 5 years (required)
- Fabrication shop: 3 years (required)
Duties
- Displays a commitment to Academy’s safety program, values, and culture
- Reads specifications and WPS data sheets
- Fuse metal components using the SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, and MCAW process
- Grind, stamp, cut and drill material
- Operate tools and equipment including overhead cranes, oxy-acetylene torches, gouging equipment and sub arc welding machines
- Attend daily toolbox meetings
- Complete tasks with minimal NCR’s
- Properly and consistently follow established procedures
- Wear the appropriate personal protective equipment at all times
- Maintains good housekeeping in work area
- Report personal injuries, no matter how minor, and obtain medical attention as required
- Consistently follow and encourage shop rules
- Willing to work overtime when needed
Experience
- B Pressure Ticket
- 3+ years of experience working in a fabrication shop
- Knowledge of best practices within the industry
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license
- English language fluency is required
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50lbs and be physically able to complete fabrication shop labour
- Must have a valid CSTS-09 (Construction Safety Training Systems) certification
- Must possess WHMIS 2015 certification
Physical Requirements
The incumbent is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: viewing weld specifications for extended periods of time; and extensive reading. The incumbent is also required to stand and sit for extended periods of time and will require good physical attributes for walking on uneven ground, climbing, confined space entry, limited lifting, and sitting.

Pay: $35.00-$45.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 50 per week
