PythonX Cutting Machine Operator

Job Overview
The PythonX Cutting Machine Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Lincoln PythonX automated structural fabrication system. This role ensures the accurate cutting, drilling, and processing of steel materials to meet project specifications, while maintaining high standards for safety, quality, and efficiency.

Experience:

  • Lincoln PythonX or similar CNC steel fabrication systems: 2 years (required)
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints and interpreting cut lists: 5 years (required)
  • Familiarity with PythonX software: 1 year (preferred)

Duties

  • Display a commitment to Academy’s safety program, values, and culture.
  • Safely operate the Lincoln PythonX Structural Fabrication System, including setup, programming, and execution of automated cutting and drilling operations.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and CNC programming files to prepare steel materials as per project requirements.
  • Load and secure steel sections onto the PythonX system using overhead cranes or other handling equipment.
  • Monitor cutting operations to ensure precision and quality, making necessary adjustments to CNC programs or machine settings.
  • Perform daily and routine maintenance on the PythonX system, including nozzle cleaning, lubrication, and alignment checks.
  • Troubleshoot machine errors and coordinate repairs with internal maintenance teams or external technicians as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of production, inspections, and maintenance activities.
  • Collaborate with the shop team to optimize workflow and meet production deadlines.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
  • Attend daily toolbox meetings to review safety protocols and production updates.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.

Skills

  • Experience: Minimum 1–2 years of experience operating a Lincoln PythonX or similar CNC steel fabrication systems.
  • Technical Knowledge: Proficiency in reading blueprints, CNC programming, and interpreting cut lists.
  • Equipment Handling: Experience operating overhead cranes and material handling systems to load and position steel sections.
  • Safety Certification: CSTS-09 certification and WHMIS are assets.
  • Familiarity with PythonX software, including nesting, programming, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Understanding of structural steel profiles, tolerances, and fabrication processes.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform basic troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, maintaining a focus on detail and precision.

Physical Requirements

The incumbent is required to have close visual acuity to operate equipment and perform inspections. Physical requirements include standing, sitting, and walking for extended periods, lifting heavy materials, and working in confined spaces.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $40.00-$50.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 – 50 per week
