Safety Coordinator

Job Purpose

The Safety Coordinator provides administrative and coordination support for Academy’s Health and Safety Management System (HSMS). This role is responsible for coordinating safety documentation, training, compliance activities, reporting, and record management to support a safe work environment and ensure legislative, regulatory, and organizational requirements are met. The Safety Coordinator also supports internal and external audits and continuous improvement initiatives.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate HSE onboarding and maintain employee training, competency, and certification records.
  • Maintain HSE documentation, templates, records, document control processes, and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Coordinate document revisions, publishing, filing, and archiving.
  • Schedule and coordinate HSE meetings, training sessions, emergency response drills, and Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) meetings.
  • Prepare meeting agendas, supporting documentation, minutes, and safety reports.
  • Administer the Behaviour-Based Observation (BBO) program, including participation tracking, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain HSE databases, compliance records, and reporting systems.
  • Compile safety reports, performance metrics, and compliance statistics for management.
  • Coordinate training programs, certification renewals, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Maintain HSE supplies, PPE inventory, and related administrative records.
  • Support incident reporting, first aid documentation, corrective action tracking, and emergency response activities.
  • Coordinate medical treatment and transportation for injured workers when required.
  • Assist with audit preparation, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide administrative support to the HSE department and operational teams.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a 2-year diploma, or University certification program in Occupational Health and Safety is preferred
  • Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, regulations and related codes
  • Ability to analyze complex information and make timely decisions using solution-based problem solving
  • Demonstrate leadership and team-building skills

Working Conditions

The incumbent is required to work in an office environment with moderate noise. The job may require the incumbent to walk stairs; be outside in inclement weather (slippery surfaces and cold); carrying objects, driving and being exposed to normal office routines.

Physical Requirements

The incumbent is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal for extended periods of time; and extensive reading. The incumbent is also required to stand and sit for extended periods of time.
